Lachlan's 2nd birthday

Here are a few snapshots from Lachlan's 2nd birthday on Wednesday. We had such a fun day. We spaced out his gifts all day, from a couple right when he woke up until the last one before bath time. Bill took off part of the afternoon from work and we spent some time at the Iowa Children's Museum. Then we grilled out hot dogs and had a crazy cookie cake for dessert. L requested a walk with Sadie after dinner so we did that, too. There was even some video chatting with "ma" and "papa" in Des Moines.

modeling the "2" t-shirt I made for him the night before.

More photos and a few adorable video snippets are in the Flickr set.

and the scrapbook page

I wanted to make sure and document the story of this transition before I forgot all the details. It's still going well. He has definitely taken ownership of his new bed and room, which I love. He's going down peacefully for a nap for Deb and Carissa and pretty well for me at night, too. I'm glad we have the gates at the doors because he understands that means he has to stay in bed and in his room until we come to get him. Earlier this week I heard him get up in the morning, but he wasn't calling for me. When I went down to check on him, he was picking out clothes for the day from his dresser - "shirt" "pants, blue". So cute.

I have lots I want to blog about - but we've been without internet at home all week because our delightful Sadie decided to chew the wire from the side of the house. Grrr. Anyway, it's fixed now so I'll be back soon with more peeks at our recent travels and my finished and unfinished projects.

first big boy bedtime!

first big boy bedtime!

I haven't been much of a blogger lately, but we're busy busy around here! I've been working on some of my WIP and starting more projects. but the big news is that Lachlan has been sleeping in his big boy twin-size bed for almost a week. Once the frame, mattress, and car sheets came together, he was immediately excited about it - he wanted to play in the bed, read in the bed, and pretended to sleep. We decided to take advantage of his enthusiasm and just go for it.

We've followed the same bath and reading routine before bed as we used to, but now I lay in the twin bed with him. The first few nights I tried to leave him when he was drowsy, but that resulted in long cries for mama at the door. He also woke up in the middle of the night crying for me. But the past few nights I decided to stay until he was asleep, just to make the transition more peaceful for everyone. Since then he has been sleeping through the night. He has also been taking his daily nap in the big bed.

I'm very proud of how well he is doing and a little amazed at how much he has grown up. Hopefully by the time his little sister arrives in June, he will be all settled in this new setup. I'm working on sewing curtains and painting a dresser for his room this week, so I'll be back with more photos soon!
